What happens
Thai New Year. Famous for the nationwide water fight, but at heart it's about family and merit: people go home, visit temples, bathe Buddha images and pour scented water over elders' hands to ask for their blessing.
Tip
Buses, trains and flights fill up days ahead as everyone heads home. Keep your phone in a waterproof pouch, and don't splash monks, babies or the elderly.
